Wind Energy Systems
Wind energy is very unpredictable, and on average Ontario has a very poor wind resource. However we have the advantage of living in one of Ontario's very best wind areas. Of the turbines we have installed to date, most are producing energy at a rate that is better than can be done with solar photovoltaics. However, wind systems do not come without maintenance; they live and operate in rough conditions. Proper sighting of a turbine and tower sizing is essential. Quantum has the experience that will get any wind installation off on the right foot.
- Wind turbines are typically used for off-grid applications and work best when combined with solar electric (photovoltaic) panels for a well rounded hybrid system. These systems are very effective in providing power in the summer when the sun is stronger as well as in the winter when the wind is stronger.
- Wind turbines are also becoming more common in grid connected areas. The Ontario Feed in Tariff (FIT) program will purchase wind energy from the producer at a rate of 13.5* cents per kilowatt hour.
